If you’re any kind of fan of the AR-15, then you should definitely have a classic, old-school, prototype AR-15 in your collection, and Brownells now makes it possible for you to build your very own model! The BRN-Proto Upper Receiver comes complete with the original, trigger-style charging handle and is designed to work perfectly with any of Brownells’ Retro lower receivers.

This BRN-Proto upper receiver is built exactly the same way as Eugene Stoner built his first AR-15 prototype, just like it appeared on the earlier AR-10 models! Of course, keeping to the period-correct setup, the upper receiver is finished with a matte-gray anodized treatment, which simulates the gray-colored treatment put on these guns throughout the 1960s.

Other than the unique, trigger-style charging handle at the top, the Brownells BRN-Proto upper receiver accepts all standard AR-15 upper-receiver components, and it also lacks the later forward-assist, preserving the slick-side look of the early AR models. This upper-receiver is equipped with a rifle-length gas system and is chambered for 5.56 NATO.
